In today’s multipolar world, it seems that the U.S Defense Strategy is shifting from combating terrorism as the main threat for the U.S security and geopolitical interest. It seems that the Trump administration has shifted its attention towards the old adversaries and put the great powers competition back at the top spot of the U.S global security agenda.

At the end of the World War II, the United States emerged as one of the two superpowers in the world. And after a prolonged Cold War that ended with the dissolution of the Soviet Union, the U.S found itself as the only superpower on the planet. It proved to the thriving era for the Western democracy as the U.S hegemony kept its global supremacy on the international stage

In the aftermath of the Second World War and the constant Soviet threat to Europe, the creation of the NATO alliance had a galvanizing effect on the overall European security. And while the Soviet goals for expansion and influence were reaching its peak, the North Atlantic Treaty Organization was the main deterrence force that kept the Soviets at bay which ensured a continental peace and prosperity for the European nations.

US-Africa relations are one of the global engagement areas of US foreign policy. Originally an area that received quite a lot of US attention largely due to the Cold War, Africa has since become a less important engagement point for America.
